Digital Content Writer/Creator

Our team is growing across departments, and our marketing team is looking for a Digital Content Writer/Creator who can help create content that captures leads, inspires conversions, and helps build brand affinity for our brand and three partner brands that we support. You’ll report directly to the Head of Marketing, and work very closely with the three other members within the marketing function.

What you will do:

    • Define our brand voice: We’re looking for someone who is passionate about personal finance and can help define our brand voice by infusing personality, confidence, and excitement into our communications. You have a masterful ability to transform complex financial topics into plain language and enjoy brainstorming visual concepts that help communicate ideas clearly and efficiently.
    • Write compelling personal finance content: Using your exceptional writing skills, you will create content that successfully attracts, engages, and educates audiences. You enjoy writing long-form opinion pieces, such as blogs and eBooks, that explore industry trends, statistical reports and objectives. You are just as comfortable creating powerful and concise short-form copy for press releases, product announcements, email newsletters, ads, web copy, video scripts, and sales collateral, etc.
    • Optimize the customer journey by persona: Writing digestible, persona-centric content is something you enjoy and have experience in. You will be creating modern and fresh content to optimize their path to conversion. You’ll know when to use enticing emotional copy or clear step-by-step instructions. You can tailor your writing for different audiences and are especially successful at communicating with our B2B customers and consumers (plan members).
    • Analyze and refine key messaging: Your strategic thinking will shape and find key messages that resonate and compel audiences to act by analyzing motivating factors and engagement metrics. You inherently understand the role of SEO and the importance analytics play while creating content. Content should be search-friendly to assist in brand discovery, driving leads, open and click-through rates, ad engagement, and conversion rates. You will track your writing in our in-house project management system and edit the work of peers.
    • Create a strategic content plan: You will work with other members of the marketing team to build a content calendar that supports feature releases, and educates plan members and Canadian employers on the importance of saving for retirement. You will come up with new topic ideas, research a subject, find insights, and craft content for benefits advisors that highlights the value of our solution over competitors.
    • Support brands and partner: A thorough understanding of Common Wealth’s brands and advisor partnership structure will be vital when creating content. You will be required to capture the accurate brand voice for each brand when producing creative, action-oriented content. You will be attending client and team meetings to move projects forward by brainstorming and providing topics based on their creative brief and/or industry. We will trust and rely on you to communicate directly with clients regularly.

Who you are:

    • Skilled writer in the financial sector: You’ve spent most of your career writing for a variety of audiences, specifically in the finance sector, and are comfortable translating your knowledge about personal finance to reach a broad audience who might and might not be as familiar with such topics. You’re able to provide concrete examples of how your writing has successfully driven results at other organizations. You understand the priorities of our customers and how they may align with our mission at Common Wealth.
    • Open-minded and willing to seek out feedback: You enjoy being part of a highly collaborative team that provides a lot of internal feedback. You never feel defensive when other people look at your work and provide opinions or ask questions. You’re open to different ways of doing things and willing to let go of a path you were on if the team feels there’s a better way. You can adapt and quickly pivot as you receive new information.
    • Collaborative team member: You understand that a great product is built through many different stakeholders working together. You have the natural ability to build strong relationships with other mission-driven team members, including those outside of the marketing group. You enjoy working with members of the creative team (designers and developers) to bring content to life and ensure the value proposition and story are clearly understood by the consumer.
    • Strategic and critical thinker: You are able to see how things fit into a larger picture. You have enough SaaS-based experience and confidence to decide on a path forward and execute. You know how to strategically communicate your messages within the context of different organizations and their goals.
    • Self-driven, fast learner: You enjoy working with an organization and educating yourself on the stakeholders both internal and external, processes, strategies and systems that currently exist. You’re not afraid to ask questions and lead your own learning and development. You put yourself out there and are willing to take action to start things moving in the right direction. You’re comfortable being given an end goal and figuring out how to get there on your own while bringing new ideas to the table constantly.
    • Understanding of digital marketing tools: You have the availability to work with various tools such as;
      • Search Engine Marketing (SEM): optimize our Google Ads campaign and explore other platforms that would make sense
      • Search Engine Optimization (SEO): gather insight from our Google Analytics account to make decisions on the best content to create and any optimization ideas
      • Social Media: help manage / optimize our social media accounts
      • Website: Landing pages, blog, headlines
      • Product Documentation: FAQs, help articles, product blogs, research, educational papers
      • Promotional materials: video scripts, press releases, ad copy, sales brochures, presentations
    • You are detail-oriented: You realize that taking the time to pay attention to the details will reward you in the end. You enjoy looking at the specifics of each and every situation because you know the value it provides. You can manage multiple projects under tight deadlines in a complex environment with a calm demeanor. When presented with multiple, competing priorities, you understand how to prioritize and achieve the most important steps first. Evidence-based decision-making is where you are most comfortable.
