10 Years of Expanding Access to Retirement Security: A Milestone for Common Wealth

Toronto, ON – May 29, 2025 – This month, Common Wealth proudly marks ten years in business. Founded with the purpose of expanding access to retirement security, Common Wealth has become the fastest-growing group retirement provider in Canada and has made meaningful progress in bridging the retirement gap for Canadians.

Reflecting on a decade of transformative growth and innovation, Alex Mazer, Co-Founder and CEO, remarked:

“The progress we’ve achieved over a decade reflects the incredible dedication of our team and the continuous support of our clients and partners. We’ve always believed retirement security should be available to everyone, and we’re committed to continuing this important work”

A Decade of Meaningful Impact & Continuous Improvements

Since its founding in 2015, Common Wealth has significantly influenced the retirement landscape:

  • Enabled more than 1,000 small and mid-sized employers to offer a high-quality workplace retirement plan, including over 800 businesses implementing a plan for the first time, and adding nearly 400 new employers in 2024 alone.
  • Grew plan membership and assets under administration by ~5x since the beginning of 2023.
  • Partnered with over 300 advisors from coast to coast, powering the growth of their group retirement practices and enabling them to spend more time on building meaningful client relationships.
  • Developed Canada’s leading full-stack retirement technology platform, recognized globally for its user experience, efficiency, and “retirement plan for life” model. Since launching the platform in 2020, we have continued to invest heavily in improvements and innovations.
  • Delivered hundreds of product, service, and operational innovations to better support employers, advisors, and plan members.
  • Published influential research on how to improve retirement security both in Canada and globally, partnering with such leading organizations as the World Bank, the Aspen Institute, and the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan.

Just Getting Started

While proud of the past decade’s achievements, Common Wealth is even more inspired by the opportunities ahead. Given that there are about 500,000 employers with between 4 and 500 employees with no retirement plan, the company recognizes the vast potential for further growth and impact.

Alex Mazer added:

“The opportunity is immense, and our potential to make a meaningful difference is equally significant. Our early successes have set the stage for substantial future growth, enabling us to assist millions more Canadians in securing their financial futures”

To our employees, clients, partners, and supporters—thank you for being integral to this journey. The future is bright, and we look forward to continuing this impactful work together.
